how this works ? help pls

hey i'm new to  web development how is it designer friendly i think i'm missing the point here when i open a html in dreamweaver design mode all i see is [var.xxxxx] cant figer out i have html template i'm trying to edit is there any easyare these codes genrated by template engine i try to read manul i still  way because everyone saying its soo easy and i'm finding it soo hard to understand or i'm in complete wronge direction i would really apreciate your help thanks

The template engine does not create templates. You use the template engine to transform the template page into the final result.
